You know what's the hardest thing about blogging?

Starting.

You know what's the hardest thing about travelling? Getting ready for it.

This deceptively small and light-looking suitcase actually reaches up to my waist and is quite a bitch to move around. In the good ol' days when suitcases having coasters were unheard of, people would have to CARRY their stuff! If anything it probably did wonders for packing light since nobody would want to lug their stuff around. With the advent of wheels, screw that - throw everything in!

So on Wednesday (after nearly getting run down by my own car by my dad), [livejournal.com profile] lady_sb and I made our way to the airport, where we took a flight to HK. Cathay Pacific had different movies depending on whether you were flying to or from HK, and so I watched "My Week With Marilyn". It's a finely-acted movie about what a bipolar crazy lady Marilyn Monroe was, and how a guy wrote a memoir based on his hanging out with her for seven days. SEVEN. He sure had a lot to write about each day: If I hung out with Marilyn Monroe for a week, I could write reams and it would still come to a page a day because I'm so used to writing like that for my diary; but that's also probably why the movie isn't based on my memoirs.

Landed at HKIA around 9, met up with [livejournal.com profile] wlifers. Didn't take too long to spot her - cute pink trunk luggage will get you noticed ANYWHERE. Don't believe me? Even immigration stopped her to admire her bag. I'd stop to admire her bag too!

Had noodles because Nadia said HK noodles were just SO GOOD. So I ordered some noodles and discovered it tasted a lot like Dragon-i's pulled noodles. My faith in HK cuisine has been damaged! Nooo! ...But they do make lovely soup.

This picture was a better distraction than my supper - what is the third pic on the right supposed to be? "Do not have your child sit on your baggage and attempt to lift someone else's airport cart"? "No baggage cart wheelies?" What is it trying to say?!

Airline celebrating their inaugural flight to London - at 1 AM-ish.

Damn right he's yur man!

HK Airport has displays of props from Cantonese Opera. Presumably Cantonese Opera is when everyone speaks Cantonese and not Mandarin, but it's *opera*. Who ever understands the words in an opera? You've got to pity a librettist - they spend all that time writing such beautiful lyrics and you can't hear it because of the singing style. Sucks to be you, librettist.

EEE! X3 SO gonna get one when I get back!! (Note: I won't)

What...is this not-Guardian establishment?? Is it Guardian with a different name? What? @@

Not only is HKIA huge and confusing, it also has reclining lounge chairs (to sleep on), free internet (if you don't want to keep awake using coffee) and drinking fountains at every corner. You can sorta see why HKIA is one of the best airports in the world.

Our plane took off at 1 AM, where I didn't watch a movie and just conked off until I reached Japan. Next up: just how cold was Tokyo?
