On FFXII

I quote Kouli's walkthrough:

South of where you are is a big desert area, but at the SE, there is a small
area. This small area is just a bit north of where you got out Barheim Passage
from before. Since you have the Barheim Key, you can go in there. Within, you
can save your game at the Gate Crystal. From the area just south of the Gate
Crystal, go west. There are 2 paths. Take the upper one. Enemies in here are
not that bad and you can just storm through this.

The enemies were ten levels higher than me, with SEVEN THOUSAND HP EACH. What level was HE at before going to Jahara???

I spent three hours like this:

AHHHH NONONONONONO FLEEFLEEFLEE NONONONO STUPID GAMBIT NONONO DON'T ATTACK THE WATER ELEMENTAL AUUUGHHHHH MARLBOROMARLBORO RUNRUNRUN DON'T MOB ME STUPID SKELETONS I CAN'T TAKE ON SEVEN OF YOU IN ONE GO FLEESTUPIDPEOPLEFLEE OH GAWD BALTHIER DON'T SHOOT OHCRAP DON'T HEAL THE MONSTERS TURN OFF TURN OFF GAMBIT NOWNOWNOW OH CRIPES DON'T DIE LA WEEEEEEI FLEEEEEE VAAN FLEEEEEEEE crap game over.

30 hi-potions only, at least even with gambits the charas know how to conserve...despite dying every other second.

Kudos to the battle programmers who FINALLY realised all on-screen members dead =/= game over. ^__^

In my experience this is a common problem with RPG walkthroughs. The writers overlevel because they're exploring in order to make their walkthrough as complete as possible, and so they write things like that that aren't true for a quicker player.

I think this is the first walkthrough I've actually encountered this.

[identity profile] without-reason.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Kouli is a jerk so don't trust his FAQs too much. ;)

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
Pity his walkthroughs are the more complete ones though. :(

I'm not so sure why a lot of people say he's a jerk apart from being openly elitist in his Shadow Hearts FTNW walkthrough - is that the reason? ^^

[identity profile] without-reason.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Not just because of him being an overall elitist. There was a whole drama between him and EChang and tried to take down his FAQs. He was also spoiling the end boss for several games in various forums (VP2 and Abyss comes to mind). And he would always think he's right; when many end up proving him wrong, he would delete whatever posts to avoid public humiliation. Most of his FAQs comes from copying down Japanese walkthrough sites.

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess this is what happens when Japanese Gamers Go Bad. I've never seen him post on the Gamefaqs boards - maybe I just go to the right places. =\

Thanks for the info!

LOL, that place is seriously overpowered, I actually didnt go back there before taking care of a couple of mob hunts and exploring off-story maps

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
I learned my lesson!

[identity profile] hooli.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
That place ar. It's good if (only if) you're well leveled, then you'll actually find the enemies refreshing for the good EXP.

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
If by well-levelled they mean level 33+, then yes I can imagine.

Is it me or do the enemies gradually give less exp?

[identity profile] alessar.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Wow that sounds like Star Ocean 2 in the Hoffman Ruins.

That's where I stopped playing that game. I fucking HATE AI party members. If I wanted to be in a group full of idiots that don't do what I tell them I'd play an MMORPG and actually get into pickup groups.

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
The thing is since you can program your characters fully (or have no gambits and have full control over them), this wasn't so much the characters' faults as much as it was me thinking, "how hard could this place be?"

So it's not so much FFXII's fault as it was mine. ^^;;

I don't even play in groups during my RO days. XD;;

[identity profile] sringangel.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
when it comes to ff series games. i have to gambatte level up alot then only i berani continue. T_T;;;;

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Luckily levelling up is fun.

[identity profile] ilunari.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
R2 is your only solution.

ESCAPE FTW

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:33 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] dustyhawk.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
rofl.. what level were you at that time?

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I've been speeding through the game, really.

[identity profile] sky-pegasus.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha...omg u r so funny. XD

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
You're the only one who got the joke. XD

[identity profile] ithronluin.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
lol. kouli's? never trust his rp unless you're a leveling-freak. XD

i never had a problem with his rp cuz i tend to overlevel like crap. XD;;;

[identity profile] dmjewelle.livejournal.com 2006-10-29 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this is the first time I've used his walkthrough and came across an underlevelling problem - must go back and check.
