I was in Kuantan over the weekend attending a wedding.
Of course, that means ROAD TRIP TIEM.
The minute we drove out of KL, dad went, "LOOK, THERE ARE HILLS! LOOK AT THE HILLS! IT'S BEEN SO LONG SINCE WE LAST SAW HILLS! LOOK AT THEM!!!!111 8DDDDDDDDD"
Not much to worry since there were hills all the way to Kuantan.

We reached Pahang after a 4-hour drive, turning out at the Gambang exit.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang. I don't know if I could ever live out in the open nothing like that for so long, even if they had good plumbing and strong wi-fi. I think there's a bus, but I'm not too sure.

Not too far from the university...SHAOLIN TEMPLE ON THE HILLS. CAN WE LIKE BATTLE THE MANCHU HORDE THERE Y/N??

This is going to sound racist but the minute you enter the east coast, you enter MalayLand (Felda land wot). The highway rest stops, the towns, the main town...I don't even remember seeing *Indians* the entire time I was in Kuantan. Mamaks? All of 2 - the rest were Malay eateries.

This mosque is in the main city - it's SO big, there's a clinic and a huge TM office ON THE GROUNDS.

Also a Very Huge Kamdar. Seeing the building gave me an uncontrollable urge to cosplay.
After meeting the family friends and having lunch together in a place where NOTHING WAS OPEN and then trying to sleep in a lodging house that had the worst acoustics in the world (turning on the kettle to boil water sounds like A DOOR FALLING APART), we decided to explore Kuantan's Berjaya Megamall. It was empty. The whole PLACE was empty. Looking around for provisions, I saw these and immediately thought of
piratelicker:

Would YOU wear an Iran bracelet though?

...What IS the word for vandals in BM anyway? O_o;
One thing though - Kuantan has LOTS of Sg Wang-type Ah Bengs & Ah Lians. They're terribly polite and hold the lifts for you (and thank you for it too!) though. Walking through the complex I also saw lots of people who knew each other. Like walking with your family and seeing OH HAY HI THERE COLLEAGUE AND HIS FAMILY. I saw that a couple of times.
And that's it for DAY ONE. Yes it was that epic; there's also videos.

Date: 2009-02-01 02:01 pm (UTC)Yeah... Berjaya most of the time quite empty really... esp at night. But then that's probably because there's Mydin, UdaOcean (Not sure if it still called that), Kuantan Plaza nearby. And most Kuantan people flocked at Mydin... I can't remember WHEN Mydin ever get less crowdy.
Hahahaha, Pengkhianat. XD
